Double Chocolate Chunk Cookies with Flaky Sea Salt

  • Author: Saly
  • Total Time: 25-27 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Description

These easy weeknight double chocolate chunk cookies are chewy with crispy edges, loaded with melty chocolate chunks, and finished with flaky sea salt. A fast, pantry-friendly dessert ready in just 15 minutes of prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (200g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (50g) unsweetened natural cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 cups (340g) dark chocolate chunks
  • Flaky sea salt (such as Maldon) for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes with a mixer).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chunks by hand, saving a handful to press onto the tops of the cookies later.
  7. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are set and slightly crisp but centers look soft.
  9. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  10. Let cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use natural cocoa powder and chop high-quality dark chocolate bars yourself for melty pockets. Ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature. Do not overbake; cookies will firm up as they cool. Store in an airtight container with a slice of bread to maintain softness.
